Ryu Hyun-jin will likely play as the second starting pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers due to injury of the team’s primary starter Clayton Kershaw and failing pitching control of its secondary starter Walker Buehler. MLB.com reporter Ken Gurnick, who has covered the Dodgers for the 18th year, recently added Ryu after Rich Hill to the team’s roster of starting pitchers for the opening game.

As Kershaw suffered injury while Buehler (who has seen delays in training) will only be able to start pitching at exhibition games after next week, they cannot be prepared for pitching before the opening game, MLB.com explained.

In fact, the Dodgers are presently operating their mound with Hill followed by Ryu in exhibition games. As Ryu displayed quality pitching and gave no runs in both of the latest two exhibition games, there is a growing chance that his rank on the starting pitchers’ roster will escalate. In the exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angeles on February 25, Ryu gave no runs and one hit during one inning. In the exhibition game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday, he gave no runs, two hits and two strikeouts during two innings.

Hill and Ryu were followed by Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling. Buehler ranked fifth, the lowest on the forecasted roster of starting pitchers.
