LG Innotek announced on Tuesday that it would develop an “Artificial Intelligence Smart Farm Technology,” which can grow chicken without people with the National Institute of Animal Science under the Rural Development Administration.
They have signed an MOU for joint study on development of poultry smart farm technology at the National Institute of Animal Science located in Wanju County, North Jeolla Province. It appears that they will be developing an artificial intelligence smart farm technology that senses the condition of chickens, controls the temperature and humidity of livestock pen, and even manage quarantine.
LG Innotek and the National Institute of Animal Science will be developing this smart farm technology by utilizing deep learning technology that uses big data on poultry and sensing technology of cameras. When this technology is developed, cameras and various sensors will be able to automatically analyze the condition of tens of thousands of chicken and environmental changes such as the weather. Artificial intelligence technology will control the temperature and humidity of the livestock pen automatically. The shipment timing will also be predictable by analyzing the status of chicken’s growth.
The National Institute of Animal Science will be in charge of research on behavioral analysis of chicken based on their growth phase. LG Innotek will be developing an algorithm that identifies symptoms of diseases based on a measuring instrument comprised of camera and sensors for temperature and humidity. LG Innotek has set its goal to apply such technology to poultry farms by 2020.
“When chickens that are being managed at a smart farm shows symptom of infection, information including condition and location of chicken with an issue will be immediately sent so that epidemic can be prevented at an early stage,” explained an official from LG Innotek.
